TAÏWAN

Documentary; 78' - 2004

A film by Jean-Robert Thomann

I’m in the airplane that goes to Taiwan. Little by little, the passengers, the board staff and the meals throw me in the Taiwanese atmosphere.
We are at the end of 2003, the isle gets in a pre election campaign period.
At the end of March 2004, for the third time, Taiwan will elect its President at universal suffrage.

Elections revive tensions and passions between Taiwanese about the relationships between Taiwan and China.
For each election, politicians don’t hesitate to play the card of the community identity to seduce electors.

I shall travel from December to March in Taiwan to meet and follow Taiwanese citizens.
Through their personal stories, it’s a portrait of Taiwan that will be drawn in the film.
By giving the key for a best knowledge of this country : its past and present and the wealth of the mixing of its different cultures, I hope to seduce the spectator as I’ve been seduce 8 years ago when I came in Taiwan for the first time
